Hey Crohnee, Are You Always Tired?

Recently the Mayo Clinic released a report that discussed how common it is for Crohnees to feel fatigue and they mentioned various reasons why this might be so.

At the same time, there was a topic started at our Crohn's Disease Discussion Board by a Crohnee who asked why they are always so tired?

According to the Mayo Clinic, they found 2 main reasons why Crohnees are always so fatigued:

  1. Anemia - Crohn's patients can lose a lot of blood at times and the decrease in red blood cells can have a serious effect on your energy levels.
  2. Depression – The drastic impact to our lives can obviously create depression which is proven to have a significant impact on your energy levels.

Your Question: Why Does Crohn’s Disease Take So Long To Diagnose?

This was a question that we got from a fellow Crohnee subscriber and we felt that it was an important question to address. The good news is that Crohn’s Disease is getting much easier to diagnose given the technology improvements.

The key to really diagnosing Crohn’s Disease seems to be in getting a colonoscopy, something that used to take much longer to get done before.

Also, with the new “pill scope” exam, it’s getting easier to see a much larger portion of the digestive system.

Your Question: What should I eat or not eat?

Here is another question that we got from a fellow Crohnee subscriber. An excellent question, however, unfortunately a bit difficult to answer. At least finding an answer that fits all Crohnees is quite difficult.

We have found that all Crohnees are very different in their diet preferences. However, we still have found a few common things that almost all Crohnees tend to avoid:

  • Dairy
  • Raw Vegetables
  • Fried Food
  • Acidic Fruits

There are also some nutrients that are missing in a Crohnee’s diet that should be paid attention to…

The Debate Continues – Is Remicade Dangerous?

It seems that we cannot even go a week without having more debates and talks about how good/bad Remicade is for you. Recently, The Mayo Clinic released an article discussing the real risks with Remicade and who the right patient is for Remicade.

It is a widely known fact that Remicade leads to an increased risk for some cancers such as Lymphoma. However, you need to speak with your doctor about balancing the benefits versus the risks. We say this because Remicade has also shown to save lives!
