Hi,

I am new to the site. I have been diagnosed with Crohns 4 months ago.
Treatment has been prednisolone and now entocort [steroid] together with immuran [immune suppresent] and flagyl [anti biotic].

Working through it. The intense cramps have stopped but its hard to build up some weight...feel queasy.

Any advice.
Tony

Hey Tony,

Have you talked to your doctor about things like
Ensure? It's a thick liquid shake that has lots of
vitamins and protein. I've used it in the past when
I find it hard to eat but need nutrition.

hey tony,

how long ago did the cramps stop? I know that for me it usually takes time to slowly recuperate.

also i find that eating rice is easier on me and the carbohydrates really help me...but that may just be me?

Prednisone does a serious number on your system so I know for a fact that it can take some time to recover from. How long have you been off of it?

I was diagnosed in Feb this year with Crohns and Ankylosing Spondylitis (nice combination eh) and went on prednisolone and Azathioprine (I think thats the same as Immuran). I also had 3 lots of Methotrexate intraveneously aswell - this all made me feel much better but when I came off the prednisolone my crohns flared up and I lost weight. In September I started taking Sulphasalazine and reduced Azathioprine and have since gained my appetite and put on 10 kilograms (in about 10 weeks).

I really have no idea at this stage if any foods are good or bad for my crohns but at the moment anything that is high in calories is fair game...
I do stay away from high fibre food tho.

Hi Tony,

You could always try eating what you would normally have and then also supplimenting with complan or something similar, that way you dont just get calories but you are also getting more viiamins and minerals which you can loose very easily when you have crohns.

You could try antimicrobial drugs. Usually three antibiotics taken at the same time to fight what is theorized to cause crohn's disease, Map

I think you guys should try the AMP Aloe instead of Aloe Juice for Crohn's. It worked better for me and quicker as it is the concentrated pure healing agent of the aloe leaf. Aloeluyah's Aloe & E is what I started taking 2 months ago, and I don't have the bad cramps or pain anymore, and I don't get the nausea like I used to.

the body is reacting to microbs and bad bacteria in the intestinal system. those microbs, or whatever they are, feed of of carbs and iron. You need to stay on a low carb diet and dont take iron. I cured my self through a low carb diet, cipro, and regular moderate use of striaght vodka on the rocks with no sugar. The vodka I found out by accident is cleaning out the system, probably killing of the bad bacteria and microbs. All I know is it works! I told this to my doctor and he laughed and agreed that vodka can have some good remedies, but he cant promote its use, odviously cause hes a doctor, but he then tells me that if you rub vodka on a rash it will get rid of it. To many doctors I talk to just continue to go with the idea that its just an imune system problem, but I am living proof that what you put into your system can cure this disease. My regular doctor would sit in her office and argue with me that my diet has nothing to do with it, and I could eat whatever i wanted, and that it was my imune system. She would then pump me up on drugs that never worked and eventually I had my entire colon removed, and that didn't work. It was just by accident that I saw another doctor who put me on two different antibiotics, and told me to keep taking them. i dont think he realized what he was doing, maybe he was just preventing me from having an inffection after my surgery, but after about 4-6 weeks I started to noticed an improvement, so I went to my regular family doctor and told him I was improving, and because he is a good doctor with an open mind he gave me CIPRO, and I just kept taking it. After realizing what was helping me improve, I began to investigate more about my diet and what could be causing my problems and improvement. I read about the SC diet that many use to improve thier lives. It goes on the idea of a low carb diet, but say that you can still eat natural sugars cause they digest better. I found that diet didnt work for me because it didnt matter what sugar I ate, it caused a problem, so I just cut out all sugar, and carbs, and took CIPRO. After several months I notice small improvements, it was slow but gradual, to the point where I was cutting back on my cipro and only taking it on the weekends. Then one night I went to my brothers house and he wanted to get me drunk, and I told him I couldn't have anything with sugar in it, so he just gave me straight vodka on the rocks and I drank that all night and got pretty drunk. The next morning I woke with a hang over, but I noticed I wasnt having any inflamation, or problems with my insides. It was completely gone. So I stopped taking my cipro, and I would just drink some vodka every few days. It has taken years, but I have slowly improved. I am to the point now where I can almost eat and drink whatever I want. I only get small problems if I have too much dairy like milk or cheese. The doctors will disagree with me but what crohns disease sufferes have in them is something in their system, bacteria or microbs, that is causing thier imune system to react, and you have to fight it with what works to get rit of it. Antibiotic cipro, low carb diet, vodka to clean out the pipes, enemas to clean out the colon. Its a combination of things that work.
