Hi everyone. I am a 30 year old mother of one. I was just diagnosed with Crohn's yesterday. I had been having chronic diarrhea, nauseau, lack of appetite, and weight loss. I haven't had any bleeding or really any pain. Just some cramping. My Drs. checked me for thyroid, gal bladder, and a myriad of other conditions. Yesterday was my colonoscopy and a diagnosis (finally). I believe that I have had flare-ups in the past. Several years ago I was diagnosed with IBS...something I didn't agree with at the time nor now.
I have been put on Pentasa. My Dr. says it looks like a mild case.
I have several questions for everyone out there.
Does anyone know of any non-pill treatments that are effective? I really have a hard time taking pills...especially ones as big as Pentasa.
Do you have any advice for Crohn's newbies? I really want to keep this from progressing into anything more severe. |

Hi Weebs,
I have had crohn's for 6 years and am curretnly taking pentasa (as well as other meds) and know what you are talking about. What is the dosage of the pentasa? As far as i have found there are no non-pill treatments that work. Im sorry that you had to get diagnosed with crohn's but at least you now know what the problem was. If i could give any advice to someone with crohn's is this.. Dont eat ANY Popcorn! That leads to a very bad next day! |

hi there!
i started off on pentasa and they take a little getting used to as they are quite big but my tip is to let it break down a little in your mouth before actually swallowing it. dont do what i tried and let it break down in a glass because it takes forever to take it because you have to keep topping the glass up with water and then really need to pee!! |

| I agree, i'm so tired of taking pills all day. I'm also on the pentasa(of course) and a couple of other meds too and it drives me crazy. I keep all kinds of pills at work so they are on hand, but people look at me like i'm nuts when I pull out these huge pills 3x a day. Please let me know if you find an alternative, i'm about done with this disease. It has changed my life so much and i'm frustrated!!! |
