|

Hey guys,
Just curious - I read an article on Crohnshelp as well as in other places about research on MAP - for example, this article, http://www.crohnshelp.com/disease/crohnsanimalfoodproducts.htm
Relating Crohns to cows is an interesting way to look at it because honestly i never drank milk growing up. but right before I got crohns i was starting to drink milk (was on this "must be healthy" routine - the irony i guess).
anyways, i talked to Anik as well and he also said that he can trace an increase in milk intake before the disease set-in...
anyone else have any experience with this

Hey Mark,
Interesting isn't it? Yea, you're right, we did talk and I can trace my
Crohn's back to it (but who knows maybe just a quincidence?)
There is lots of interesting research being done on this, but mostly
in Australia and UK. The milk lobbying in US is strong and keeping
this "allegation" out of the U.S. - doing a good job at it too...
I also met with a VERY well recognized doctor from Johns Hopkins
just months ago, he's a renown researcher on Crohn's for decades
now and he actually says that MAP is NOT the answer - he does not
believe that crohns is a bacteria caused disease...
I guess just lots of work to be done to find out.

Hey Mark,
I also wanted to leave you with this link that I just
started in another section on this forum - it has a
link to another article that talks about Myoconda,
the drug used to treat MAP right now (but not FDA
approved).

I've read about that connection too. I've since then, wondered about it. I grew up on a farm in Minnesota and my dad had milk cows. So, we drank out milk directly from the cow for many years while growing up. We also ran around totally barefoot in the summer while at home. So, I've often wondered since then, if I picked something up. Course, if that is the case - why didn't any of my 3 brothers or 1 sister get it also? Was I just more susceptable? Did the dna just fall in the right place with me?

Hey Jeanne,
I've asked that too and that comes down to (I think) the
right dna structure but also your specific immune system
not being able to fight off the bacteria.
See, what's really interesting is that Crohn's Disease seems
to be much MUCH lighter in countries where the milk is boiled
before drinking...
Alot of asian countries like India see a dratically smaller
occurance of this disease (but it's increasing there too now
as these countries also Westernize...)
Definitely interesting...

mine was triggered by medication the doc gave me for an ulcer so i tend to believe the RNA/DNA theories mself. saying that i read a lot of stories about bacteria in cow meat and also read one story of someone who went swimming in a river and developed it - pretty scary! |

I currently feel that the Map theory is the most correct of all theories and deserves the most research attention.
